CURRICULUM EXTENSION UNITS
Curriculum extension units are themed units that extend the essential curriculum to provide additional challenge and enrichment to those students who could benefit from the extra rigor. These units are written for grades 2-5 and provide advanced level learning in thinking skills, questioning, and research. The G/T resource teachers work with the classroom teachers to talent spot and those students are invited to participate. The talent spotting lessons are taught to the entire class so that every student has the potential to be nominated for participation. Grade 2-5 have two to three enrichment units which are taught throughout the school year. Instruction is approximately 2 hours a week with the G/T resource teacher. Each unit can last from 6-9 weeks depending on the school schedule.
A creative product is completed at the end of each unit and these creative productions are on display at the Enrichment Fair. The school newsletter will carry announcements about the enrichment fair date and time.
